Construction Worker

Summary: Works on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, and clean up trash and debris from job sites. Completes all work duties based on a priority basis and meets both customer’s and management’s expectations.

Responsible for completing all assigned construction activities to meet both the customer’s and management’s expectations.

• Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line.
• Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
• Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
• Mixes concrete and smoothes and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete.
• Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections.
• Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
• Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
• Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal surfaces.
• Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces such as concrete, brick, or stone.

Responsible for maintaining equipment and organizing necessary tools, parts, and maintenance equipment to eliminate un-necessary down time.

• Maintains and keeps clean all service vehicles to meet customer’s and management’s expectations.
• Ensures that prior to the start of the day all required tools, equipment, parts, maintenance equipment, and chemicals are on the service vehicle.
• Responsible for returning all tools, equipment, chemicals, parts, and paperwork at the end of each day.
• If parts or product needs to be special ordered a requisition order is required to be placed through the purchasing department.
• Responsible for maintaining proper paperwork, permits, vehicle logs, and safety equipment.

Other general duties include:

• General maintenance and clean-up as delegated by management.
• Responsible and required to meet dress requirements as assigned by management.
